Job description

  1. Assessment: Conduct thorough evaluations to assess speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing abilities using standardized assessments, clinical observations, and interviews with clients and their families.
  2. Diagnosis: Formulate accurate diagnoses based on assessment findings and clinical judgment, considering factors such as medical history, developmental milestones, and cultural background.
  3. Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans that address the unique communication and swallowing needs of each client. Goals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART).
  4. Therapy Implementation: Provide evidence-based therapy interventions targeting speech production, language comprehension and expression, cognitive-communication skills, voice quality, fluency, and swallowing function.
  5. Counseling and Education: Offer guidance, support, and education to clients, families, and caregivers regarding communication and swallowing disorders, treatment strategies, and home-based exercises.
  6. Collaboration: Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, psychologists, educators, occupational therapists, and physical therapists, to ensure coordinated care and holistic treatment approaches.
  7. Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessment results, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries in compliance with professional standards and regulatory requirements.
  8. Professional Development: Stay abreast of current research, best practices, and advances in the field of speech-language pathology through continuing education, workshops, conferences, and professional memberships.
  9. Advocacy: Advocate for individuals with communication and swallowing disorders by promoting awareness, accessibility, and equity in healthcare, education, and community settings.
