
As part of the World Mental Health Day Observance, a special awareness programme was organized on Monday, 14th October 2024, at the Makkaraparamba Palliative Care Clinic, Malappuram. The event aimed to promote awareness and understanding of mental health among volunteers and the general public, emphasizing the vital connection between community well-being and mental health.
The programme witnessed the active participation of around 150 volunteers, reflecting the growing interest and commitment towards fostering mental health awareness within the community. The sessions were facilitated by Dr. Lukeman Sha, Consultant Psychiatrist, Thanal, and Mr. Baiju Ayadathil, Head of the Department of Social Work, Thanal.
The theme of the session, “Society and Mental Health,” focused on the societal factors influencing mental well-being and the importance of collective responsibility in supporting individuals experiencing psychological distress. The facilitators highlighted the need for empathy, early intervention, and community-based mental health support systems.
Participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing their experiences and perspectives, making the event both interactive and insightful. The programme concluded with a call to continue collaborative efforts to promote mental wellness and reduce stigma surrounding mental illness within the community.
